Travelinsurance.com review – Is travel insurance right for you?

This is a product review of Travelinsurance.com on the travelandjapan.com website.

Travel Insurance is a price comparison company specializing in travel insurance. The company works with top insurance companies that provide travel insurance. The company does not provide insurance.

Before recommending this company to my readers I wanted to do a review on the company and see if the company was worth adding to my travelandjapan.com website.

Better Business Bureau

To start with I went directly to the Better Business Bureau website and checked the company. The company has an A+ rating and has been an accredited business for 9 years. This made me feel good about the company as a whole since this is usually where unhappy customers complain about fraudulent business practices.

Using the website

Next, I wanted to see how easy it is to use the company website. I found that my travel insurance is just four steps away. Much easier than websites I have used in the past.

I filled out supporting information about where I was going, dates traveling, how many travelers, and the total cost of the trip. This took only seconds to do this. I was surprised to receive 17 quotes from insurance companies like John Hancock, CSA, and Travel insured International.

Each quote listed common travel insurance information and I could clearly see the differences in each plan. Each payout is listed clearly and included trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical evacuation, emergency medical, baggage loss, flight accident, and accidental death.

Prices range from lowest to highest with higher insurance policies covering accidental death and higher payouts for each of the above-listed groups. I could even request an email quote or click on a “more info” link for further details which I found helpful. The more info link allows me to download A full description of the policy which I could read at my leisure. I recommend you read the entire policy before purchase.

Another option I found useful was the “narrow your search” function on the right-hand side. This allowed me to check off the parts of the policy I was most interested in and search all policies with these filters. If “baggage loss” was my primary concern I can search all policies by checking the “baggage loss” checkbox.

Payment

Usually paying for travel insurance is straightforward but on this site the insurance company I selected also offered me extra insurance for things that I might want to add to my policy.

Under optional coverage, I was given several choices for extra insurance which includes canceling for work reasons, additional medical benefits, and car rental damage. I could also increase flight accident coverage.

I found these options added flexibility because I could buy a low-end policy and increase the coverage I felt was the most important. I could also add work-related cancellation if I felt that I would be asked by my workplace to cancel my vacation. I felt that this was a necessity in today’s work environment.

Customer Support

I found some personal reviews that described long wait times during high call volume. The company responded to these by giving an apology and saying they were overloaded with calls because of the coronavirus outbreak.

I also found that the live chat on the website was a “leave your info and we’ll get back to you” type of support. There was no live chat support. Live Chat is not available but the website does have impressive step by step help guides (including videos) to help customers understand how to use each aspect of the website.

While I do understand the company’s inability to keep up with the call volume at this time I feel that every company should have a customer service contingency plan that involves bringing more customer service agents online when a national disaster occurs. Customers are the most important part of any business.

My overall feeling about the company

I felt like the travel insurance website was extremely easy to use and it only took about 5 minutes to purchase my policy. The website had all the information I was looking for and more. I was pleasantly surprised by the policy additions on the check out page.

The fact that the company is A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau made me feel at ease buying from them.

I’m a stickler for good customer service so when I found that there were long hold times that made a few customers post unhappy reviews I felt that the company could do a better job in this area. However, I have found the same customer service levels in other areas of the travel industry.

I will definitely recommend this company to my readers.
